Biography:
Skaidrite Leimane was born in the Dobeles district in Latvia in 1941. She graduated from Riga Applied Art High School in 1960 and from the Department of Textile of the Latvian Academy of Arts in Riga, Latvia, with a degree in Arts in 1993. She presently works in her home university. Since 2011 she has been a member of the American Tapestry Alliance and a member of the consulting committee of FITMA TAIWAN. Since 1989 she has been a member of the Artist's Union of Latvia and since 1994 a member of the Textile Art Association. She worked as an academic teacher at the Latvian Art Academy and was a leader of the Applied Art Studio Ligante. She has held numerous solo exhibitions including: the Executive committee of Kurzeme’s district in Riga, Latvia in 1994; the House of the Architects Union in Riga, Latvia in 1995; the Club Ledurg, Latvia in 1997; the Gallery “Durvis” in Tukums, Latvia in 2006; the Talsi Art Museum, Latvia in 2003; the Gallery “Daugava” in Riga, Latvia in 2006; the St. John’s Church in Riga, Latvia in 2007; the Valmieras Art Museum, Latvia in 2011; and the Gallery Apsida in Riga, Latvia in 2011. Her group exhibitions include: the International Tsai art exhibition in the Dadun Cultural Center Taichung, Taiwan in 2014; the International exhibition of Textile Art Association “19” in St. Peter’s church in Riga, Latvia in 2014; the Tapestry Exhibition of Textile Art Association (2014 – Cesis, Latvia; the Art and History Museum of Jekabpils, Latvia; the Art and History Museum of Gulbene, Latvia; 2015 – Vitebsk, Belarus; Jelgava, Latvia; St. Peter’s church in Riga; 2016 - St. Peter’s church in Riga); the Exhibition of Miniature Textiles in the Rotko Center in Daugavpils, Latvia in 2014; the International Tsai-mo Butterfly Art Exhibition in the Dadun Cultural Center in Taichung, Taiwan in 2015; Skaidrite has been a member of the jury during exhibitions in: Latvia, Italy, France, Germany, Austria, Hungary, Sweden, Czechoslovakia, Norway, Lithuania, Estonia, Russia, Greece and Taiwan. Her works can be found in private collections in USA, Germany, Latvia and Hungary.
